The Aurora is a laned single-family model by Baywest Homes, available to tour in the new southeast community of Rangeview.
In many homes, cooking, eating, visiting, homework and packing school lunches all happen in the kitchen — sometimes at the same time. When the layout doesn’t support those everyday demands the space feels crowded. The Aurora 18 by Baywest Homes offers a solution.
This is a laned 1,568-square-foot single-family model now displayed as a show home in Rangeview. It’s presented with three bedrooms above grade and another two in the developed basement. Master-planned by Section23 Developments, Rangeview is a southeast Calgary community located roughly five minutes from amenities such as the South Health Campus and a YMCA.
The island is sized and positioned to absorb secondary tasks without displacing the primary task of cooking. Unlike most kitchen islands that concentrate seating along one edge, this island provides seating on both sides, with chairs facing one another. This format makes conversation feel more natural during snacks and quick meals. The island also includes a sink and is positioned beneath pendant lighting. With water access and lighting integrated directly into the island, many daily routines can be handled without moving back and forth across the kitchen. Centrally located, the kitchen has two points of access and plenty of space between the island and features along the kitchen wall. This supports the ability the circulate without creating a disruption. In the show home, the kitchen is demonstrated with stainless steel appliances such as a fridge with french doors and chimney-style hood fan set against a full-height tile backsplash. While the island can shoulder homework assignments, a pocket office on the opposite wall scratches that off its to-do list. This space is also a strong fit for households where a family member works from home. For households that don’t need a home work station, it can function in a variety of other ways, such as space for storing books and toys for younger children.
At 11 ft. by 11 ft., the rear-facing dining area delivers plenty of space for larger gatherings such as holiday celebrations. With these dimensions, one can place their typical table with something larger short-term if the occasions calls for it.
Continuing its focus on welcoming social spaces is the front-facing great room. Its tall windows introduce a high volume of natural light, creating a comfortable area for relaxing and entertaining.
On the second level, a central bonus room separates the primary bedroom from the secondary bedrooms, creating both privacy and flexibility. The 11-ft. by 11-ft. primary bedroom includes a well-sized walk-in closet and ensuite. This ensuite is arranged efficiently, with a tub-and-shower along one wall, a single sink vanity opposite. The secondary bedrooms, located side by side, are equal in size. This eliminates competition over room assignments and simplifies furniture planning for families with children.
A side entrance is demonstrated in the show home along its stairs to the developed basement. This is a useful feature for home owners who decide to offset their mortgage payments by renting their basement to a tenant. Further supporting the idea is a legal suite presented in the show home. In addition to its bedrooms and bathroom, there’s a spacious kitchen and living room, allowing the basement to function as a complete and self-contained living space. The kitchen boasts a long stretch of counter, arrays of cabinets and stainless steel appliances such as an over-the-range microwave.
